Corruption and five deals with India that 'compromise national interest' top the protest agenda of main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The party's chief and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, who conferred with her political aides Wednesday, is expected to announce a series of protests after the holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr, New Age newspaper said Thursday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed five deals during her visit to India in January covering power generation, exchange of information on criminals, cooperation to fight terrorism and measures to boost bilateral trade.

Zia plans to focus on her principal political rival Hasina's failures in running the government and highlight the misdeeds of activisits of the ruling Awami League, BNP officials told the newspaper.

The BNP is also to focus its agitation alleging 'conspiracy against (former president) Ziaur Rahman's family'.

Khaleda is the widow of the slain former president Ziaur Rahman, who founded the BNP. The government wants to bring back their two sons, Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko, now living abroad on medical grounds, to face trial in a number of graft cases.

BNP Standing committee member Moudud Ahmed said the party would go for 'tactical' anti-government programmes after Eid and the programme would be law-abiding but more effective.
